Irish Citizenship

Do you want to apply for Irish citizenship?

If you’re British but have an Irish grandparent you may be entitled to apply for Irish citizenship, provided you can prove your genealogical link to that grandparent.

Once Irish citizenship is established you may then apply for an Irish passport, and enjoy the practical advantages that document confers on those who wish to travel seamlessly throughout the EU in a post-Brexit world.

Working on your behalf, we can identify and apply for all those birth and marriage certificates you will need to prove to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs that your name should be placed on their Foreign Births Register, and that you should be granted Irish citizenship.  This would involve us supplying not only the relevant Irish birth certificate, but also the appropriate documents from register offices in England, Wales or Scotland that you will need to prove your Irish connection to the satisfaction of the Republic of Ireland authorities.

Finally, you should be aware that since the Irish records contain some gaps, there can be no guarantee that your grandparent’s birth certificate exists or may be located.  However, if that were to be the disappointing outcome you may be reassured that you will not be charged for the time we spend searching.
